God has given us something that a lot of people have a hard time doing. If you are a religious person, what I just said may affect you in a certain way; because people don’t believe that they have the authority to command things.
One thing we need to realize:
Stop talking to God about your problem, and start talking to your problem about your God.
Turn to Genesis Chapter 1, the beginning. As I share these things, I want you to understand, I do not walk around with my head covered thinking that things don’t happen to Christians. Rain falls on Christians and non-Christians. The difference is, we have to receive the blessing. Everything that is natural, were subject to it, but we also have the ability to walk through it.
I want to deal with this issue: do we have authority? In Genesis 1:26-28closeGenesis 1:26-28
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (ESV) (KJV), And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God told us a couple things: I want you to have dominion over the birds over the fish over the cattle over the Earth and then He even threw in a little caveat, over everything that moves. Think back about David when he was in his little area attending the sheep, a lion came, David knew this scripture. David knew that God had given him dominion. What is dominion? It means you will subdue, you will have the dominating force, or ability to take over that individual. Just because these things have been given, you realize, like I do; that the will of God will not just fall into our laps. It requires us to believe it and receive it. You have to believe it and you have to receive it. I like this illustration that if I was given a present from my wife, she put it in my hand, I must believe that she gave it to me; but I also have to reach out and receive it. She’s not going to open it for me, I must open it up.
Genesis Chapter 6, we know this, that God was a little concerned about His creation, He says that the wickedness of man became great. Verse five, the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the Earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and the Lord was sorry that He had made man on Earth and He was grieved in His heart. We know what happened, God destroyed every living thing with the exception of Noah and his family. The Bible says concerning Noah that he was a just man, and he was perfect in his generation. If you keep going over in Genesis Chapter 9, pay attention to these words, Genesis 9:1closeGenesis 9:1 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. (ESV) says God blessed Noah. Noah was in the boat, it was amazing he was in that boat with all those animals, and all those unique perfumes, and all those unique sounds for a year, and a couple of days. Brother Noah had some patience!
Verse 1, God blessed Noah and his sons, and what did He say to them, “be fruitful and multiply fill the Earth”. Verse 2 says, and the fear of you, and the dread of you, shall be on every beast of the Earth, and on every bird of the air, and on all that move on the Earth, and on all the fish of the sea, that are given into your hand. Every moving thing that lives, shall be food for you I have given you all things, even the green herb.
We see once again that God blesses Noah and his sons and He gives a command He wants them to go have dominion, be fruitful and multiply. Cross reference that, jump over to the New Testament. Jesus said this to His disciples in John chapter 15, He says, by this My Father is glorified that you bear much fruit. In John 15:16closeJohn 15:16 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. (ESV) He says, Jesus said, you did not choose Me, but I chose you (hear this) He says and I’ve appointed you that you should go and bear fruit that your fruit should remain.
The expectation from God is that we would bear fruit, and that our fruit will remain. We see in the Book of Genesis that God originally gave us dominion over the fish, the cattle, the Earth, the herbs. He gave man dominion and we find out when Jesus came along, Jesus not only, let me say this, Jesus added to the dominion we already have. Jesus gave us dominion over all the demons, over all the spiritual forces of the world, He gave us complete dominion over all of them; and the expectation is, that we bear fruit. So it’s not something that we should be working towards, like an effort, it is something that we should just live in and walk in.
God’s expectation is that we would have dominion and we would bear fruit. Turn to Proverbs 18closeProverbs 18
18:1 Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment.
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion.
3 When wickedness comes, contempt comes also,
and with dishonor comes disgrace.
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters;
the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.
5 It is not good to be partial to the wicked
or to deprive the righteous of justice.
6 A fool's lips walk into a fight,
and his mouth invites a beating.
7 A fool's mouth is his ruin,
and his lips are a snare to his soul.
8 The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels;
they go down into the inner parts of the body.
9 Whoever is slack in his work
is a brother to him who destroys.
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
11 A rich man's wealth is his strong city,
and like a high wall in his imagination.
12 Before destruction a man's heart is haughty,
but humility comes before honor.
13 If one gives an answer before he hears,
it is his folly and shame.
14 A man's spirit will endure sickness,
but a crushed spirit who can bear?
15 An intelligent heart acquires knowledge,
and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
16 A man's gift makes room for him
and brings him before the great.
17 The one who states his case first seems right,
until the other comes and examines him.
18 The lot puts an end to quarrels
and decides between powerful contenders.
19 A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city,
and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.
20 From the fruit of a man's mouth his stomach is satisfied;
he is satisfied by the yield of his lips.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruits.
22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing
and obtains favor from the Lord.
23 The poor use entreaties,
but the rich answer roughly.
24 A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
(ESV) , God gave us something and His expectation is that we would use it to accomplish the things that He has asked us to do. Proverbs 18:21closeProverbs 18:21 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruits. (ESV) death and life are in the power of the tongue, say that, death and life are in the power of the tongue. That tells us that we have power in our tongue, we have the ability, because we been given dominion to speak to things. Our words have power, we have life or we have death. Note the Bible says, choose life. It’s a choice!
Turn to John 6:63closeJohn 6:63 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (ESV) speaking about the words that have been given to us, Jesus speaking He says, it is the Spirit who gives life, the flesh profits nothing. Now Jesus says, the words that I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are life. Jesus has spoken to us, Spirit and life. We have to come to a place where we see that we have been clothed with a tremendous amount of authority, and power, to accomplish things here on Earth. Many people say, well God’s in control. You don’t need to do anything God’s in control. But if God was really in control, would we have people aborting babies. If God was in control, would we have murders? People cutting other people’s heads off. The reality is, God is really not in control (of what’s happening in this world). Who’s in control then? God placed us, as a man and woman on the Earth and He said, I want you to have dominion, I want you to have authority, I want you to subdue; and then He came and sent Jesus, and Jesus said all authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given unto to Me.
The expectation is that He expects us to walk in that authority. The reason I wanted to bring this up is because there’s a lot of stuff happening. That does not mean we get casual, that we get casual and complacent; that we just let things happen. If we let things happen, they are not going to be good. If things are happening, Jesus said, you’re in the world, but you’re not of the world. Even though you are in the world, you still have the blessings of God. Those who don’t know Jesus don’t have the blessings. They don’t have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them, we have things that are privileged that I really want to make known, or hope I can make known to you.
Let’s look at the words of Jesus in Matthew 28closeMatthew 28 The Resurrection 28:1 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” The Report of the Guard 11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day. The Great Commission 16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (ESV) , the last words He spoke, this is after He had been resurrected before He ascended. He appears to the disciples and He says in verse 18, all authority has been given to Me in heaven and on Earth. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing in the name of the Father of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Look at this in Mark and Matthew 10closeMatthew 10 The Twelve Apostles 10:1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. 2 The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles 5 These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. 9 Acquire no gold nor silver nor copper for your belts, 10 no bag for your journey, nor two tunics nor sandals nor a staff, for the laborer deserves his food. 11 And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. 12 As you enter the house, greet it. 13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. 15 Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. Persecution Will Come 16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. 19 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 24 “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. Have No Fear 26 “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. Not Peace, but a Sword 34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Rewards 40 “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. 41 The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (ESV) I want to see these things and remind us of these things that Jesus has commissioned us to do. It’s something that we really have to get a hold of, that we have a responsibility that’s been given to us. Now remember this authority is not our authority; we have been given delegated authority to use in His name, to enforce His principles and His spiritual laws.
There are laws that we have the ability to enforce by enforcing His word.
Matthew 10:1closeMatthew 10:1 The Twelve Apostles 10:1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. (ESV) He called His 12 disciples and He gave them power over unclean spirits to cast them out, to heal all kinds of sickness, and all kinds of disease.
March 16:17 These signs will follow them that believe in My name they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.
I’m just giving you the words of Jesus, because by hearing these words I’m hoping that we will get some confidence. It shouldn’t just be for individuals like Oral Roberts, who is in heaven now, no this is for the average believer. It didn’t say the sign will follow the minister, or the apostle. It says these signs will follow them who believe, so we are working on our believing. Luke 9:1closeLuke 9:1 Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles 9:1 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, (ESV) Jesus is ready to send out the 12 disciples, it says, He called His 12 disciples together and He gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. It doesn’t matter what rank of demon you’re dealing with God has given you and me power and authority over them. We have to get this, we have to realize that things are coming after us.
Luke 10:19closeLuke 10:19 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. (ESV) Jesus again speaking and He says, Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you. If you read that closely, you will pick something up, and that is that the enemy has power; but He’s given us power over that power.
Let me demonstrate the great power Jesus has. In Matthew 8:28closeMatthew 8:28 Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons 28 And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. (ESV) The Scripture says when He, talking about Jesus had come to the other side, there met him two demon possessed men coming out of the tombs exceedingly fierce so that no one could pass that way. Pay attention to what this next Scripture says, and suddenly these demon possessed men they cried out, what have we to do with You Jesus, You Son of God have You come here to torment us before the time. Demons know that they have a limited time.
They are asking Jesus wait a minute, it’s too early, are you coming to torment us, we know we’re going to be tormented; but your showing up a little early. See the expectation is that He has delegated that tormenting power to us, that we don’t have to be tormented by demons. They are going to come, they are going to attempt to get us in a weak moment, but I’m trying to encourage us, myself as well; that God has given us authority and power over that. It’s time to start speaking to things folks, it’s time for us to start speaking to things.
When my body starts acting up, I speak to it. I’ve been practicing this, I say it is a finished work in Jesus, by His stripes I am healed. I’m not trying to get healed, I am healed.
We need to walk in and release this enormous power that God has given us, that He has clothed us with.
Most religious backgrounds make it hard for us to accept that. Just when I say that word, God has given us the authority to command things, people think wait a minute now, we can’t do that, we have to walk around like humble little worms. No, no, no find a scripture on that, He says I’ve given you authority.
Let me make sure you understand, I’m not talking about commanding things for your benefit; it’s enforcing the spiritual laws that have already been put into place.
That’s all we are doing, we have been given the power, the authority and we’ve been given the dominion to enforce what God has already done. Going back to that saying that, “God is in control”. There are certain things that God won’t do, because He’s given it to you and me to do.
I mentioned that story, that we have to stop talking to God about our problems. I heard Creflo Dollar tell this story, that he for a long time would talk to God about this pain in his hip. He said that he kept talking to God about it, and finally God spoke to him and said when are you going to stop talking to Me about your problem, and start talking to your problem. The light went off in him, God has already dealt with the problem, but there’s times when God wants us to speak to the problem.
Here’s what I want to encourage you in: when you speak to the problem don’t worry about what you see. Jesus spoke to that fig tree, the next day when He came back, the fig tree was withered. You can’t go by what you see, you just have to keep speaking and keep believing, and just say I believe it, I receive it and I’m going to enforce that law. It is a finished work that Jesus did. It is a finished work and the fact that it’s finished, that means all we need to do is rest in it. God is in control, but He’s definitely given us the ability to speak to things, life and death are in the power of our tongue.
Here’s an amazing fact, God has given you and me angelic hosts to assist us. Look at Psalms 91closePsalm 91
My Refuge and My Fortress
91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge—
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.” (ESV) most of you know this, a lot of people have memorized this, he that dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Look at Psalms 91:11closePsalm 91:11 11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways. (ESV) For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. Angels have been given charge over us, we are not working alone folks.
There are angels that rebelled against God, but the number that rebelled against Him, they do not exceed the number that stayed with Him.
Go to Psalms 103:20closePsalm 103:20
20 Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his word,
obeying the voice of his word! (ESV) Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength and who do His word, heeding the voice of His word. When we are singing songs that have to do with His word, the angels are responding. When we speak His Word’s that is why it says life and death are in the power of the tongue, when we speak the Word of God we are producing life. This is why it’s so important that we don’t get caught up in what we see Let me make this very practical for us in relationships, when we focus on what our partner may be doing or maybe does not do, and we look at it, and we keep focusing on it; all we are doing is adding strength to that behavior.
Whatever you focus on, it will grow. Instead of focusing on the problem let’s start focusing on the strength of our God, that is where our faith is going to grow. It is amazing how when you practice these things, they work. It does not mean attacks won’t come, how do you know you believe in something, unless you are challenged. How did you get to the six grade, you had to pass a test in the fifth grade, right? How did you get to college, you had to pass a test. A test shows you what you know, it verifies what you say you believe in.
Matthew 4:11closeMatthew 4:11 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. (ESV) Jesus is tempted by Satan, and it says that every time Satan came to Him, His response was: it is written, it is written. After Jesus was tempted, the Bible says immediately after Satan left, that angels came and ministered to Him. They came and served Him, they strengthened Him. After passing the tests, they came to minister to Him.
I believe that if Jesus had failed, not that He would, the angels would’ve come and ministered to Him, cause they are there to serve, to serve you and me.
I want to put some Scriptures in your hand so that you can say, “I’m going to start saying what the Word says”. We have this authority to enforce the spiritual laws that already exist. It really is a finished work already, when Jesus said, “It is finished”. Let me ask you this, if you say you believe something, what is the evidence, what can you use to authenticate that you believe it. Your faith good! Let me give you a better one, if I say I believe something the best way for me to authenticate that is to rest. I’ll use healing as an example, if I say I’m healed, but then I say, I have to go fast for five days; what I’m doing is I’m saying I’m healed; but I feel like I’ve got to do something, but really the evidence is that if I say and believe I’m healed, I just rest in the finished work.
The Bible in the Book of Hebrews talks about certain ones did not enter His rest because of unbelief. But if I really believe it, then I rest. Rest does not mean I just do nothing! Rest means I enter a place of Thanksgiving, rest means I enter a place of praise, rest means that I enter a place of worship. It means in the midst of all this going around, I say, Father I thank You, that by the stripes of Jesus I’m healed. I thank You, Father that You supply every need. I focus on Him, make Him bigger than I do the problem. I don’t add faith to the problem, but I add faith to His Word. Worship is a wonderful way to rest in God, it’s a wonderful way!
My wife and I just experienced something, we were waiting for our income taxes to come back, so I decided to check on it. I checked on line and found out it had never been filed, so I called my tax man. He looked into it and called me back. He informed me that someone filed your income taxes for you, they call it identity theft . I choose not to worry about it, here’s what I did. I believe that I have the power, that Vilma has the power, that you have the power, with our words to bring damage to the individual that did that.
When Jesus was with His disciples, there was a time when they asked Jesus, should we call down fire. Jesus said you know not what spirit you are of, He didn’t tell them they can’t do it, Jesus knew that they could do that. The authority and the power that we have, that we have not tapped into, however, you have to be careful . I feel for that individual that did that to us, cause he is messing with one of God’s children.
This is one of those hard things that religion does not want us to talk about. But I am going to talk like that because I believe it. We have the ability, because I can do this, that is rest in the finished work of Jesus. I’m not going to magnify, I’m not to keep talking about it, I’m not going to magnify that. What I’m going to do is say, God, I thank You that You supply all my needs. I thank You, that even though they tried to steal from us, You protect us.
That is what I have to do, that’s a test. This is reality, stuff happens! What do we do when stuff happens, we have to make a choice on choosing to magnify the Word of God, because I realize that these are tools, these are things that God has given us.
The Bible says labor to enter into His rest, it doesn’t say labor to do stuff. If you labor to enter rest, you have to labor; you have to work at worshiping, you have to work at being thankful, you have to labor to not work. Your laboring not to do anything, but your laboring to enter the rest. What is the rest? It is finished, I have the Word it is finished.
Did you catch what I said? I believe that we have the ability to call things into existence and I know this because it’s happened to me before. As a baby Christian, I remember my first pastor shared this with us. He had lost his wallet or maybe it was his child and he prayed this, he said, “Father make their hands burn and may they bring that wallet back”. It happened just as he said. Can you imagine being a thief and find your hands are burning.
We have to be careful, you can’t throw around something like that. You have to use wisdom. You have to use compassion, you have to use discernment, but it is something that God has given us. It’s not for our purposes, but to enforce the principles of the Kingdom of God.
The resting is literally accomplished by giving thanks, by praising God, by worshiping God. It never means that I’m supposed to sit back and do nothing, but I become active in believing more in the promises of God than I do the evidence I see with my eyes.
If you are ever going through something, here is what I want you to do, here’s your test. I worked on the hazmat team and we would have this little paper you can test the acidity or the pH balance of the water. Here’s how you can test your real belief, are you resting? What is the difference between rests, versus not resting. Resting is, I don’t worry! It is a choice, but I don’t want you to think that I said resting is just doing nothing. Resting in Jesus is being very active in thanksgiving, in praise and in worship. Reminding the Father of His word, Father I thank you that you have provided every need that I have. Now what is a need , He provides for our need, He didn’t say I provide over and above your need. He will provide your need, He will bless you over and above, but remember let’s be content in where we are. Let us be successful in passing every test.
There so many things that God has made available to us, grace has made it available, but it is by faith. Someone said by faith I grab it, but I don’t have to work it out because He’s already finished everything. Everything you and I need has already been completed by Jesus, everything, I do mean that. Everything is in Him, we live and move and have our being in Him. Grace has made it available, all I need to do is get in His Word and find out what grace has made available to me; and then, I use my faith to take what grace has already made available.
I use my faith to take what grace has already made available to me, God has made available to us some great and precious promises. God has given us authority and dominion and we can no longer sit back and say, oh I hope God does something. God is waiting for you and me to do something.
You might need to get your magnifying glass out and really look at God’s promises, whatever you need to do….make His promises larger than your problem! Let your eyes see His promises and be moved by that and not what you see. God has given us the ability to speak life and or death…let’s choose life and walk in the authority He gave us.
